Kelford Valve Spring Kit Available For FA20 Turbocharged Engines
When it comes to the subject of the valvetrain, it commonly gets thrown under the rug and forgotten. Building an engine for forced induction demands attention to certain details. Being that forced induction produces additional stress on the engine many components need to be upgraded for added strength, durability, and reliability.
View Kelford Inventory Here!
The FA20 has proven to be a wonderful platform with a turbocharger strapped on. Whether it is the VA chassis WRX or the BRZ/FRS/GT86 platform, the FA20 provides excellent bottom-end torque with plenty of power left to give higher into the RPMs when turbocharged. Common issue owners are running into is valve float at higher RPMs.
Valve float is a result of the valve springs not being able to compress and rebound fast enough with the rate of the camshafts. Kelford developed a set of dual valve springs that feature titanium retainers. Utilizing the factory valve spring seats, the Kelford spring kit simply replaces the factory single spring with a beefy dual spring.
With 228 lbs rating at 11mm lift and 262 at 12mm, the Kelford valve spring kit provides exceptional quality that can be trusted at high RPMs. Thanks to the dual spring design and titanium retainers, the redline of the FA20 is able to be raised to achieve maximum power gain reliably. Installing a set of Kelford dual springs will allow the FA20 to truly shine in a turbocharged application.

the history
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, commonly referred to as Evo called by jdm fanboy is a sports sedan based on the Lancer that was manufactured by Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors from 1992 until 2020 made as coupe, sedan and hatchback. There have been ten genaration of Evo and the designation of each model is most commonly a Roman numeral. All use two litre turbocharged inline four engines and all-wheel drive systems and mase only as sedan and the variantd are ex,el,gl,glxi most commonly sold here in the phillipines it has a brother called galant commonly sold here in the phillipines too.
The Evolution was originally intended only for Japanese markets, but demand on the "jdm import" market led the Evolution series to be offered through Ralliart dealer networks in the United Kingdom and in various European markets from around 1998. Mitsubishi decided to export the eighth generation Evolution to the United States in 2003 after Subaru release the rival of the evo, the Subaru Impreza WRX STi.
Evos has big power until the release of the Evo IX in 2005 were limited by a gentlemen's agreement to advertise no more than 276 hp. However, sources say Mitsubishi had already been producing cars with more power but had been underrating the official power outputs in order to be in compliance with the agreement. Therefore, each subsequent version has unofficially evolved above the advertised power figures, with the Japanese-spec Evolution IX reaching an alleged output of around 317 hp. Various versions available in other markets, particularly the UK, have official power outputs up to 440 hp.
The tenth and final generation of the Lancer Evolution the Evo X was launched in Japan in 2007, and overseas markets in 2008. The Evo X was produced for almost 10 years until it retired in April 2011 they release a limited edition of the Evo X final edition and ralliart edition.

2020 Subaru Legacy Tech Dive: EyeSight, DriverFocus, Starlink Shine
Subaru Legacy Touring XT 2020 (April)
The 2020 Subaru Legacy is a near-perfect car if you’re looking for solid transportation and extensive safety technology across all trim lines. Every Legacy has all-wheel-drive, and enough driver-assist technology to be virtually self-driving on highways while protecting pedestrians in town (called Subaru EyeSight), track and alert inattentive drivers (DriverFocus), and call for help in an accident (Subaru Starlink).
The new, 2020 seventh-generation Legacy also has front cupholders deep enough to not spill a 32-ounce Big Gulp, were the car capable of a 4-second 0-60 run (it’s more like 7 to 9 seconds, depending on the engine). The engine’s “boxer” technology, similar to what Porsche uses, lowers the car’s center of gravity. The front and back rows are spacious and the trunk is enormous. Highway mileage is in the upper thirties.
So what’s not to like? Not much. This Subie won’t move the excitement needle quite like Mazda or Honda does among midsize sedans. It’s not as dazzling as the 2020 Hyundai Sonata. There’s less ground clearance than the similar Subaru Outback crossover. The new infotainment system and navigation had a few quirks, the kind a firmware upgrade typically cures, and stop-start twisted the steering wheel and my thumb a couple of times (more below).
The Nappa leather cockpit of the 2020 Subaru legacy.
The Car for Inattentive Drivers?
You say you’re a good driver; I say I’m a good driver. Yet surveys find the majority of Americans self-describe themselves as above-average drivers, which is statistically impossible. And yet, we also know people close to us whose driving skills or cognition worry us: teenagers and others in their first few years of driving, aging parents, a spouse or partner who’s had a couple of fender-benders that were the fault of “the other guy,” and people who text or create on-the-fly playlists even when they know it’s unsafe.
Subaru is a leader among automakers in making virtually all its safety technology standard across every one of the six trim lines, or model variants, of this new 2020 car. Buy any Legacy Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Limited XT, or Touring XT and you get:
A dual front-facing camera system, Subaru EyeSight, to keep you in your driving lane, warn of / brake for possible forward collisions, detect and brake for pedestrians at speeds up to 20 mph.
Full-range adaptive cruise control as part of EyeSight.
An active driving assistance system that controls speed and lane centering, pacing any car in front of you, also part of EyeSight.
LED low and high-beam headlamps with automatic high-beam control.
All-wheel-drive for extra grip in snow or rain, or on gravel roads.
Any Legacy other than the base model has safety telematics (called Subaru Starlink) standard. Blind-spot warning is available, optional on two trim lines and standard on three; it also includes rear cross-traffic alert and automatic braking while backing up. An excellent eye-tracking driver distraction system, DriverFocus, is standard on the top two trim lines and optional on a third.
One feature not offered is a surround-view camera array that primarily improves tight-spaces parking, but it also protects you (if you watch the screen) from running into kids’ tricycles or kids on tricycles. Rear auto-braking provides that protection.
With the 260-hp turbo engine (top two trim lines only), you’ll hit 60 in 6-7 seconds. Add 2 seconds for the 182 hp engine on other Legacies.
Legacy on the Road: Mostly Smooth Sailing
I drove the top-of-the-line 2020 Subaru Legacy Touring XT, about $37,000 including shipping, with warm brown Nappa leather, moonroof, an 11-inch portrait-orientation center stack LCD, vented front seats, heated fronts and rears, onboard navigation, and immense amounts of back-seat legroom and trunk room.
Subaru lie-flat boxer engine: two cylinders go left, two cylinders go right.
With the new, 2.4-liter turbo engine of 260 hp and continuously variable transmission on the Limited and Touring XTs, it was quick, hitting 60 mph in 6-7 seconds. Highway miles went by quickly. Under foot-down acceleration, there wasn’t much noise from the CVT transmission; some testers have noted it on the non-turbo Legacy that has to be pushed harder to get up to highway speeds.
Most four-cylinder-engine cars have an inline design. Most Subarus including the Legacy have horizontally opposed, flat or boxer engines. They are effectively V engines where the angle is 180 degrees, not the 60 or 90 degrees of V6 or V8 engines. The engine is more compact, has less inherent vibration, gives the car a lower center of gravity, and allows for a lower hood and better driver sightlines. Against that, the engine requires two cylinder heads. Porsche also uses flat-six engines in the 911, Cayman, Spyder, and Boxster. The term boxer alludes not to the small crate it fits in, but rather the in-out motion of the two adjacent pistons that looks like a boxer’s fists.
Where most automakers use a combination of radar and a camera for driver assists, Subaru’s Eyesight system uses stereoscopic cameras. It’s standard on the 2020 Legacy, Forester, Outback, and Ascent; and available on the Impreza, Crosstrek, and WRX.
Pedestrian Detection Saves Another Jaywalker
Highway driving was enjoyable with the driver assists, a nicely sound-insulated cabin, very good Harman Kardon premium audio, Wi-Fi on Starlink telematics cars, and USB jacks for four people. In town, the driver assists work well; a jaywalker who popped out mid-block was picked up and the car came to a quick (sudden) stop. But spirited back-roads driving was not as much fun as some other cars in its class, notably the Mazda6 and Honda Accord. The 2020 Subaru Legacy is based on the same new platform as the 2020 Subaru Outback crossover-almost-wagon. But the Legacy’s ground clearance is 5.9 inches to 8.7 inches for the Outback. So the Legacy is fine in the rain, snow, and on gravel roads, but not the first choice in Subarus if the road to your country cabin is deeply rutted.
Subaru has rudimentary self-driving capabilities utilizing EyeSight, although Subaru doesn’t consider it to be formal self-drive tech and has no Eye-something shorthand name such as, say, EyeDrive. (BMW might not be amused.) Once activated, it centers you on a highway and proceeds at a pre-set speed, slowing for cars in front of you. It combines Subaru’s Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control feature with Lane Centering. As with other vehicles, activation is a multi-step process.
DriverFocus, on upper trim lines, combines a camera and infrared illuminator. It watches to see if the driver’s eyes are on the road ahead.
DriverFocus: Big Brother Is on Your Side
Take your eyes off the road, and the DriverFocus eye-tracker tells you to pay attention.
Subaru DriverFocus, an eyebrow module at the top of the center stack, contains a camera and IR illuminator to track where the driver is looking, and rats you out after 10-15 seconds of not looking ahead. GM’s highly regarded Super Cruise self-driving technology uses eye-tracking also.
Some driver-attention monitors count the micro-movements a driver continually makes as he or she drives.
I had two concerns with my test car: I was startled a couple of times by the gas-saving stop-start system. Occasionally as the engine came to a stop at a traffic light, the steering wheel on my test car abruptly turned a couple of inches and twice caught my thumb that was loosely holding the wheel next to the spoke. After the second time, I decided to keep my thumbs off the thumb grips once this car stopped at a light.
The infotainment system had trouble parsing some spoken commands, wanted to drive me to the intersecting street with the same name plus “Extension” at the end, and occasionally would not connect an iPhone using two different Apple cables or with Bluetooth. On sunny days, the LCD was sometimes hard to read and the brushed chrome-look trim strip around the center display reflected the sun’s glare.
The Subaru Legacy instrument panel. The center multi-information looks busy. (It is.) But it also gives the driver lots of information at a glance. If this feels like TMI, you can flip to simpler views.
EyeSight Is Improved, Still Unique
Subaru says EyeSight has been improved and I sensed that both in the ability to pick up a car ahead from a greater distance and to be less affected in the rain. In some ways, EyeSight in snowy conditions may be better than radar in that windshield wipers clear the paths in front of the two cameras. If snow blocks the radar sensor, you have to get out and scrape it off with a brush or your gloved hand, assuming the driver knows where the sensor is located in the grille. Also, snow and rain reduce the effectiveness of radar to some degree.
Subaru Legacy Touring XT, the top trim line.
Safety Features Abound
Even if you are a statistically good driver, a car such as the Legacy improves your odds of staying safe. It also improves pedestrians’ odds: A 2019 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety study found Eyesight-equipped Subarus reduce pedestrian-injury claims by 35 percent. IIHS also found Subarus with second-generation Eyesight did better than first-generation systems dating to 2010. IIHS said it found no significant self-selection bias, meaning the idea that safety-conscious good drivers might seek out safe-seeming Subarus and Volvos. Separately, IIHS found Subarus with EyeSight had up fewer rear-end collisions and passenger injuries.
How solid is Subaru on driver assists and safety technology? Here’s a rundown:

Should You Buy?
The 2020 Subaru Legacy is a solid midsize car for people who don’t need a status symbol. The Legacy wins a lot of awards but not all of them. Consumer Reports has it as the best midsize sedan and one of only 10 CR Top Picks among 300 models for 2020. In contrast, Car and Driver put the Legacy eighth behind the Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and the Mazda Mazda6, among others. Guess which publication favors safety features and comfortable ride versus spirited handling? The Legacy is also a 2020 IIHS Top Safety Pick+, which means good ratings in crash tests, advanced or superior ratings in available front crash prevention, and (the plus part) acceptable or good headlamps standard.
We like the Legacy a lot, even if within Subaru this is an outlier, a sedan in a company known for outdoorsy crossovers and SUVs: Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, Ascent. The Ascent had arguably been the best midsize SUV until the Kia Telluride / Hyundai Palisade came along last year. The Legacy had been unique in offering all-wheel-drive, but the Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry added it for 2020.
The steering wheel has big buttons and rockers, all legibly labeled. If only all cars were this clear with switchgear.
Subaru is a relatively reliable brand. The car is eminently practical. From the side, though, it’s hard to distinguish from a half-dozen other brands. Fuel economy is good, an EPA combined rating of 23 mpg for the turbo models, 29 mpg for the non-turbo. Real-world mileage should be several mpg higher, and with judicious driving, the non-turbo could approach 40 on the highway.
If you’re shopping Subaru for max safety, we’d suggest: Move past the Legacy base ($23,645 with freight) because you can’t get blind-spot warning / rear-cross-traffic alert or safety telematics, and past the Legacy Premium ($25,895) because you can get BSW / RCTA, but not reverse automatic braking (RAB). Blind-spot warning matters: Not all young drivers know to check side mirrors and look over their shoulders; older drivers may know, but may not have the dexterity to turn their heads sideways.
Every Legacy has dual front USB jacks (above) and, except for the base model (below), two more jacks in the back. Note how every jack and switch is nicely and legibly lettered.
The Legacy Sport ($27,845) lets you get BSW-RCTA-RAB in a $2,245 options package, along with a power moonroof and onboard navigation, for $30,090 total. Or for $30,645, you can get the Legacy Limited that includes BSW-RCTA-RAB, and the one options package, $2,045, gives you the moonroof again, a heated steering wheel, and DriverFocus. The top two trim lines, the Limited XT ($35,095) and Touring XT ($36,795), give you nice and nicer leather, DriverFocus, and the moonroof. So the sweet spot may be the Legacy Sport plus the options package, or the Legacy Limited, at about $30K each. Cross-brand shoppers comparing front-drive-only midsize competitors should attribute about $1,500 of Subaru’s price to AWD.
The Subaru Legacy should be at the top of your consideration set along with the Hyundai Sonata, the ExtremeTech 2020 Car of the Year. If you want a sporty car, look to the Mazda6, the Honda Accord, or – this is not a joke – the segment best-seller Toyota Camry with the TRD Sport, as in Toyota Racing Division.

VARIATIONS OF THE CAR ENGINE
There are many variations of the car engine and they all come in various shapes and forms and they all have unique differences. You can differentiate cars based on layout and engine cylinder configurations. Based on layout, we have;
STRAIGHT ENGINE
The straight or inline engine is an internal combustion engine with all cylinders aligned in one row. They are usually found in four- and six-cylinder configurations and are considerably easier to build. Straight configurations are simpler than their V-shaped counterparts. They are used in some models from BMW, Ford, Jeep, Chevrolet, GMC, Toyota, Suzuki and Volvo Cars.
INLINE ENGINES
Cylinders are arranged in a straight row, like a straight engine layout. However, it doesn't go from front to back like a straight engine but the cylinders as being placed 'side by side'. In-line engines are also smaller, thus, It frees up more space around the engine for components like the car battery and cooling system. Cars, light commercial vehicles, medium & heavy commercial vehicles and earth moving equipment widely use this design.
FLAT ENGINES
It is also referred to as boxers engine. This layout keeps the engine as flat as possible. Thee cylinders are located on either side of a central crankshaft, laid down flat in both directions. This layout keeps the car's centre of gravity low, which then makes it much easier to handle. Cars with this type of engine are 2016 Subaru Outback, Subaru Legacy, 2016 Subaru WRX.
V ENGINES
Sometimes called a vee engine. It's cylinders arranged at an angle in a V-shape. Having more power in a smaller area makes the V engine layout ideal for luxury high-performance vehicles. The V type has two rows of cylinders, usually forming an angle of 60° or 90° between the two banks. The more compact V-engine is fitted in some cars, especially vehicles with eight or 12 cylinders, and also some with six cylinders. Cars with this type of engine is, Toyota Camry 3.0L, Mercedes Benz E 400 Cabriolet. Based on engine configuration, they are;
TWIN CYLINDERS
They are also known as an inline-twin, vertical-twin, or parallel-twin. In this configuration, two cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. 2005 Mazda RX-8 Special Edition, 2012 Fiat 500 Twin Air, Tata Nano, 1974 Mazda RX-3 Super Deluxe.
THREE CYLINDER ENGINE
A straight-three engine (also called an inline- triple or inline-three) is a three-cylinder piston engine where cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. A 3 cylinder engine is much more fuel efficient compared to a 4 cylinder engine of the same size. The straight-three is light on fuel and big on power Cars with the 3 cylinder engine are; Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta, BMW i8, Mitsubishi Mirage, Smart Fortwo, Daihatsu Charade.
FOUR CYLINDER ENGINES
A straight-four engine is a four-cylinder piston engine where cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. One advantage of a four-cylinder engine is that it offers a balance between fuel efficiency and power. They work continuously and are extremely refined.. Cars with a 4-Cylinder Engine are, 2014 Toyota Prius, 2016 Honda Accord, 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, and lots more.
FIVE CYLINDER ENGINE
The straight-five engine or inline-five engine is an internal combustion engine with five cylinders aligned in one row or plane, sharing a single engine block and crankcase. A Five-Cylinder Engine as an Economical, Smooth-Running Power Plant. Five-cylinder engines are hard to find in new models these days, except perhaps in a few Audi RS models. Cars that use five cylinder engines are Land Rover Defender, Ford Focus RS, Audi Sport Quattro, Volvo 850R.
SIX CYLINDER ENGINES
The straight-six engine (also referred to as an inline-six engine; abbreviated I6 or L6) It is an internal combustion engine, with six cylinders mounted in a straight line along the crankcase with all the pistons driving a common crankshaft (straight engine). Cars with six cylinder engines are 2019 Chrysler 300, 2020 Toyota Avalon, 2019 Genesis G80.
EIGHT CYLINDER ENGINE
An eight-cylinder engine, the V8, is common in pickup trucks, SUVs and sportscars. These engines create a lot of horsepower and torque and are better suited to tow or haul. It usually has between four and six litres of displacement, depending on the size of the eight cylinders within. Foremost, the V-8 operates like any other gasoline-powered four-stroke engine. The higher we go on the number of cylinders, the more high-performance/luxury the cars tend to be. When you cross into 8+ cylinder territory, you'll only find these in racecars, supercars and only the most luxurious of sedans. There are so many variations of car engines, but you have gained a little more knowledge about car engines than before. Reference; HoltsAuto Read the full article

The HKS Super SQV kit maximizes the charge response that repeats pressure charging and pressurized air relief by the throttle on and off. It also ensures stable actuation through the adaptation of HKS’s own sequential valve structure and special pull-type relief design. As aforementioned, the Super SQV can operate across the entire pressure range without leaking – unlike pull-type BOVs out there. At low boost ranges, the primary valve opens; at high boost ranges, the secondary valve also opens, delivering a linear response and optimal blow-off operation no matter the level.
The new Black Edition of the HKS SQV4 Blow-Off Valve with Return Kit features a body and upper part that have been painted in a semi-gloss black color with a wrinkle-black coated funnel. Installing this product on your Subaru WRX | STI will deliver a unique, sharp, and high-frequency SQV sound that suits the sport compact car perfectly. This unit is designed to be located beside the engine to enhance the overall appearance of the underhood compartment and make it stand out at your next show or event.
Features:
A special color edition for the HKS Super SQV (Sequence Blow-Off Valve)
Significantly increases its presence and improves the engine compartment appearance.
Once HKS Super SQVIV is installed, its unique and sharp high-frequency sound demonstrates its existence.
To match with the appearance created by HKS Intercooler Piping Kit, the buff-polished casting pipe is included.
Blow-off valve kit is manufactured specifically for your vehicle application for perfect fitment and optimal performance.
Includes all flange and hoses required for a seamless installation process.

2020 Legacy (woah) ______________________________________ Subaru may have just made the best midesized sedan in its class with the 7th gen 2020 Legacy! Finally using their dynamic design language, we see things like actual sculpted body panels, 3D taillights and full LED headlights! Now the overall styling is similar but look closely and you can see LOTS of changes especially in the rear to add a sloping roofline, and a more sleek overall design. 🔥 Under the hood is the base 2.5L Flat 4 but who cares about that when you can get the Touring XT trim with a 2.4L turbo flat 4 making 260HP and 272 lb-ft of torque hitting 60 in 6.1sec (CVT only) and it gets 32MPG. 🔥 The new Subaru platform is much stronger and ridged and the boxer engine allows for its signature low center of gravity for a planted driving feel. There is a new suspension and added torque vectoring to the Symmetrical AWD system. The interior is INSANE for a Subaru with a massive new 11.6in touch screen that works similarly like the one in the Ram 1500 where you can split the screen, (standard is a 7.0in screen), Apple carplay & Android auto, NFC pairing, 12 speaker harmon Kardon audio, The Touring gets Nappa leather, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats and the very imprsssive Eyesight system with rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, emergency braking, adaptive cruise cronteol and the new Driver Focus system that uses infrared lights to monitor your eyes to detect drowsiness ! ________________________________________ EXTRA: This over a Mazda 6?? ________________________________________ - - #Subaru #Legacy #Flat4 #Ascent #USA #indiana #japanese #japan #turbo #Wrx #XT #AWD #symmetricalAWD ||#powerful #performance #turbocharged #supercharged #advanced #Supercar #HyperCar #ItsWhiteNoise #CarLifeStyle #MadWhips #cars #Carstagram #AmazingCars247 An #allcarnews post https://www.instagram.com/p/BtlkY_unTzZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1w2ze1c6wy2pl

Future Cars: 2021 and Beyond
They may be out of favor right now, but traditional three-box cars will never go away. To make sure, automakers around the world are pouring enormous resources into design and engineering to keep sedans, coupes, and convertibles as interesting and as compelling as possible. Whether they’re built for fun, luxury, a bit of both, or just to get you where you need to go, the cars of the near future will offer more style and technology than ever as they try to woo you away from joining the SUV herd.
Cadillac Celestiq
What’s New: The Celestiq is a massive four-door, four-passenger, full-size electric car with big wheels and a hatch instead of a trunk. It will be a hand-built grand tourer with tons of executive-style space in the very wide back seat. A tinted glass roof extends from the windshield to the rear hatch. Each bespoke sedan will have rich detailing such as flower petals embedded int the acrylic décor. The Celestiq rides on GM’s new BEV3 dedicated electric vehicle architecture, which uses fast-charging Ultium batteries, placed under the floor.
What’s Not: Design takes some cues from the Cadillac Escala concept. Banner technology such as Super Cruise will likely be standard.
When: 2022
How much: $200,000 (est)
Mercedes-Benz S-Class
What’s New: Code-named W223, the new S-Class is a major redesign of the flagship Mercedes sedan. The exterior features taut, elegant surfacing, a long dash-to-axle ratio, and a more rakish C-pillar. Up front, high-tech digital headlights flank a new grille. The lavish new interior features a dramatic dash design and two screens; the horizontal one in front of the driver is similar to the one used in the current S-Class, and a Tesla-sized vertical screen extends upward from the center console. Powertrains will include the recently launched 3.0-liter straight-six and the AMG-developed 4.0-liter V-8—both featuring a 48-volt mild hybrid system—and there will be a plug-in hybrid version. The new S-Class will also boast Level 3 autonomous capability.
What’s Not: Of course there’s a Mercedes-AMG version in the wings. Expect a big-horsepower version of the 4.0-liter V-8, all-wheel drive, and available carbon-fiber trim inside.
When: Late 2020
How Much: $95,000 (est)
Hyundai Prophecy Concept
What’s New: As its description implies, this is a concept car—and a design you’ll never drive. Evidence? Its steering wheel has been replaced by twin joysticks, a perennial dream car crowd-pleaser. However, note that its name is Prophecy—and we suspect that’s no random choice. It’s a concept, yes, but also a shape that could very likely predict that of a future battery-electric production version. Most notably, Hyundai’s designers have gone to great lengths to minimize aero drag to maximize its range. For instance, note its strikingly Model 3–like nose (except for its multipoint “Pixel” headlights) and that carefully swept-back tail to keep airflow attached as long as possible. Don’t be surprised to see this shape someday sitting atop the skateboard platform created by EV startup and Hyundai partner Canoo.
What’s Not: Being a concept car, the Prophecy was penned on a clean piece of paper.
When: N/A
How Much: N/A
Lexus IS
What’s New: The IS is a midcycle refresh of Lexus’ entry-level sedan, last revised in 2016. Although the outside will certainly look different, with more LS-inspired styling, the IS’ underpinnings will be the same, albeit with revised suspension tuning and an improved chassis. The interior will be updated to reflect current design language, as well. Because this isn’t a wheels-up redesign, some elements will be familiar, but changes to the dashboard and infotainment setups will give the IS a fresh look inside.
What’s Not: We expect the powertrains to remain the same. That means a 2.0-liter I-4 making 241 hp in the base model, a 3.5-liter V-6 making 260 hp in AWD versions, and an uprated 3.5-liter V-6 making 311 hp in pricier trims.
When: Late 2020
How Much: $40,000 (est)
Subaru WRX and WRX STI
What’s New: Subaru’s aging WRX and WRX STI high-performance sedans move to the scalable Subaru Global Platform. Despite the cars’ new underpinnings and redesigned bodywork, the two rally-inspired sedans evolve the formula of past WRX and WRX STI models by maintaining staple features such as standard all-wheel drive and a powerful turbocharged flat-four engine. Look for the run-of-the-mill WRX to trade the current car’s 268-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder for a larger, slightly more powerful 2.4-liter unit that mates to either a six-speed manual gearbox or an available CVT. The big-winged, stick-shift-only WRX STI, meanwhile, is due to feature a nearly 400-hp variant of its sibling’s 2.4-liter four-pot.
What’s Not: Both the platform and the basic engine already underpin several other Subaru products.
When: Early 2021
How Much: $30,000 (est)
Toyota GR86
What’s New: Toyota and Subaru are making big changes for the second coming of the co-developed Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ. A new powerplant will steal the most headlines, likely the 2.4-liter turbocharged unit that makes 260 hp and 277 lb-ft in the Subaru Ascent—that would have the upcoming two-door making 55 hp and 122 lb-ft (!) more than the current Toyobaru. The replacement 86 will be rebranded as the GR86, similar to the GR Supra, to strengthen Toyota’s Gazoo Racing performance arm. Toyota is expected to supply the underpinnings for the new coupes, likely a version of the automaker’s modular TNGA platform.
What’s Not: Although it hasn’t been confirmed, we’re praying these two will retain a manual gearbox option.
When: Summer 2021
How Much: $30,000 (est)
Mazda6
What’s New: Mazda has blown up the 6 rulebook. Front-drive four-cylinder? Forget it. The next 6 will be rear-drive and powered by an all-new inline-six with Skyactiv-X spark-controlled compression ignition and a supercharger. An all-new eight-speed automatic backs up the engine, and Mazda’s i-Activ all-wheel drive will be offered. Although this powertrain will be first out the door, recent patents show Mazda is working on electrification ideas, including an electric motor mounted on the gas engine with additional in-wheel electric motors.
What’s Not: The design of the new 6 may be hiding in plain sight, previewed by the Vision Coupe Concept shown here (which is actually a sedan, or four-door coupe in modern marketing speak).
When: 2022
How Much: $28,000 (est)
BMW i4
What’s New: The i4 is BMW’s first stab at a midsize EV, and its first job is to take the fight to the Tesla Model 3. Everything from the massive kidney grill to the funky rear taillights will be new. BMW says it will have an EPA-estimated range of 270 miles on a full charge and will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds. The i4 will also be ready to (mostly) drive itself with radar, lidar, and other sensors hiding behind those inflamed kidneys. It’ll seat up to four, feature BMW’s swoopy Gran Coupe fastback styling, and be the first car to wear BMW’s redesigned logo.
What’s Not: BMW’s i and M brands still aren’t combining their efforts, so no performance models.
When: Early 2022
How Much: $55,000 (est)
Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
What’s New: Having drifted far from its Super-Leicht roots, the completely redesigned SL is starting over as an AMG, built on the next generation of the performance brand’s exclusive sports car platform under the GT S, GT C, and GT R supercars. Differentiating itself, the SL will get a folding hard-top convertible roof and 2+2 seating, straddling the divide between the AMG GT roadster and the dying S-Class Cabriolet.
What’s Not: A slew of AMG engines are lined up for duty, from turbocharged and mild hybrid inline-fours and -sixes to twin-turbocharged and mild hybrid V-8s. Both rear- and 4Matic+ all-wheel drive will be offered, indicating a nine-speed automatic rather than the GT’s racy dual-clutch.
When: Late 2021
How Much: $100,000 (est)
Lucid Air
What’s New: Coming from much of the brain trust that created the Tesla Model S and every battery used in Formula E, the Lucid Air is in many ways the now-aging Model S’ spiritual successor. The car is a technology powerhouse, initially with 1,000 hp (and potentially 1,200 hp) from its dual electric motors—with a three-motor version in the plans. A key advance is its motors’ operation at a soaring 900 volts, miniaturizing the drivetrain. The result is unexpected passenger room inside, cloaked in a sublime shape penned by ex-Mazda design chief Derek Jenkins.
What’s Not: As Lucid’s from-the-ground-up first offering, it shares nothing with anything before it.
When: Fall 2021
How Much: $60,000 (est)
Mercedes-Benz EQS
What’s New: The EQS is the first of four mid- to large-sized electric vehicles—two cars and two SUVs—scheduled to come off Daimler’s new modular BEV architecture. As the name suggests, this is intended to be the electric equivalent of an S-Class and is roughly the same overall size as the current flagship Mercedes sedan. Despite a sporty roofline inspired by the CLS and AMG GT 4-Door, the BEV architecture follows the familiar skateboard format with a central underfloor battery pack and motors at each axle, which affords significantly more room for passengers and their stuff. The dramatic interior features a full-width screen spanning the dash and extending down to the center console.
What’s Not: Assorted pieces of suspension and brake hardware. The flush door handles and next-gen MBUX system will be shared with the new W223 S-Class.
When: 2021
How Much: $110,000 (est)
Audi TT E-Tron
What’s New: Audi’s shifting priorities killed off the TT as we know it, but the iconic coupe will live on in spirit with battery power. Although Audi and Porsche are working on the PPE platform for large premium EVs and the Taycan’s J1 platform will support Porsche electric sports cars, Volkswagen’s MEB platform will underpin the TT E-Tron. MEB’s dual-motor capability will provide Quattro electric all-wheel drive. As before, the TT EV will have snazzy styling, a practical hatchback, and a drop-top variant.
What’s Not: Like its combustion forebear, the Audi TT E-Tron will share parts with common Volkswagens from the MEB platform.
When: 2023
How Much: $50,000 (est)

Mr Kobayashi is the former Chief Designer (Head of Global Advanced Design Studio) at Subaru Corporation and was responsible for the exterior design of more than 12 Subaru production models, including the legendary WRX STI.
The special GT Edition aero kit has four well-made and integrated elements, which give the rugged yet refined Forester a sleeker and even sportier look:
Front bumper lip extension
Side skirts
Roof spoiler
Rear bumper lip extension
These are complemented by a set of 18-inch bespoke alloy wheels. It also boasts its own seat-leather design inspired by the cabins of high-performance grand tourers from Germany and Britain. Completing the equipment package of the Forester GT Edition is a new 8-inch Display Audio System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a 360° Around View Monitor (AVM) system, which enables drivers to park and manoeuvre with ease.
Tailored specifically with Motor Image’s in-depth understanding of the market, Mr Kobayashi’s expertise, as well as Giken’s experience, the Forester GT Edition is expected to be a game-changer for Subaru in Asia.
An extraordinary SUV that does it all, the Forester GT Edition comes with the four hallmark Subaru Core Technologies – Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Boxer Engine, Subaru Global Platform and EyeSight Driver Assist Technology.
Mr Kobayashi originally trained and practised as a fashion designer in Tokyo before graduating with a degree in Transportation Design. In his 25-year career with Subaru, he was known as the ‘hit maker’, after designing numerous successful models, including the original Outback, which was the world’s first sports utility wagon, several generations of the Legacy and Impreza, the current WRX and WRX STI sports saloons, the Levorg sports tourer and the first-generation XV. He is now an independent designer.

2019 LA Auto Show: Vehicles for Every Lifestyle
We round up vehicles for every type of lifestyle that we saw at the 2019 LA Auto Show, including the 2020 Audi RS Q8 and the 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S.
Thrill Seeker
The 2020 Audi RS Q8 made quite an entrance with its massive grille and striking lime green exterior. It’s got good looks and plenty of power, thanks to its 4.0-liter V8, which also sits under the hood of the RS 6 Avant. It can get from 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds and up to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. You can also check out the 2020 Subaru WRX STI Series.White, which makes 310 horsepower and is available only with a 6-speed manual. It stands out with 19-inch matte bronze wheels and silver brake calipers.
Weekend Warrior
The 2021 Kia Seltos debuted at the LA Auto Show, making it the latest crossover to join the company’s growing family. It offers 7.2 inches of ground clearance along with a rugged design that echoes its slightly older sibling, the Telluride. Even better? According to Kia, the Seltos will have a starting MSRP of under $22,000. The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime also debuted, showcasing a new plug-in hybrid powertrain that packs 302 horsepower. You can expect 39 miles of all-electric range and 90 MPGe.
EV Enthusiast
We saw plenty of EVs at the LA Auto Show that offer a combination of performance, range, and technology. The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E features a 15-inch touchscreen and an EPA-estimated 300-mile range. If you opt for the GT Performance Edition, a 98.8-kilowatt-hour battery makes 459 horsepower and 612 pound-feet of torque. The 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S also caught our eye. It’s got a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds and packs up to 562 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque if you opt for overboost with launch control. Inside, you’ve got up to four screens, with the 16.9-inch driver cluster, a 10.9-inch infotainment screen for the driver and another for the passenger, and an 8.4-inch screen in the console.
Luxury Shopper
The 2021 Lexus LC 500 convertible offers a number of luxe features, including the Lexus Climate Concierge, which tweaks the car’s heated seats, neck warmers, and heated steering wheel to the ideal temperature. BMW introduced a new version of the M2 with the 2020 M2 CS Coupe. It gets a 39-hp power increase to 444 hp and a 6-speed manual standard. Inside, it features Alcantara-and-leather seats and a Harman Kardon sound system.
